Psychological driver assessment

Psychological assessment is mandatory in specific situations related to driving licences. Below you can review situations in which it may be required, consult indicative information on foreign licences and understand the applicable procedures.

Condutores do GRUPO II – condutores de veículos das categorias C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D e DE, bem como os condutores das categorias B e BE que exerçam a condução de ambulâncias, de veículos de bombeiros, de transporte de doentes, de transporte escolar, de transporte coletivo de crianças e de automóveis ligeiros de passageiros de aluguer.

Revalidation should be requested within the 6 months before the licence expiry date. When a psychological assessment certificate is required, it must be digitised and presented with the revalidation request.

Revalidation periods according to licence date

Group II drivers

Drivers licensed before 2 January 2013
  • At age 40: revalidation and then every 5 years until age 65.
  • Until age 50: with medical certificate and without psychological assessment certificate.
  • From age 50 onwards: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
  • At age 65: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
  • At age 68: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
  • At age 70 and then every 2 years: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
Drivers licensed from 2 January 2013
  • Date shown on the driving licence: revalidation and then every 5 years until age 70.
  • Until age 50: with medical certificate and without psychological assessment certificate.
  • From age 50 onwards: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
  • At age 70 and then every 2 years: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
Drivers licensed from 30 July 2016
  • After the licensing date: revalidation every 5 years until age 70.
  • Until age 50: with medical certificate and without psychological assessment certificate.
  • From age 50 onwards: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.
  • At age 70 and then every 2 years: with medical certificate and psychological assessment certificate.

Nota: O termo de validade das cartas de condução das categorias D1, D1E, D e DE, bem como da categoria CE cuja massa máxima autorizada exceda 20 000 Kg, ocorre na data em que o seu titular perfaz os 67 anos.
